Determining if your child needs speech-language therapy often involves looking beyond exact word counts and noticing how they communicate in their daily life. While every child’s path is unique, here are several signs that it may be thyme to reach out for support:
Frustration: Frequent meltdowns, withdrawal, or distress when they cannot be understood by others.
Social Connection: Difficulty engaging in back-and-forth communication or struggling to use language for different purposes (like asking for help, telling a story, or commenting).
Clarity: Persistent speech sound errors or omissions that make their speech unclear to familiar or unfamiliar listeners, especially past age five.
Understanding: Difficulty following simple directions or struggling to answer comprehension questions about a story they just heard.
Stuttering: Repeating sounds, words, or phrases in a way that causes the child distress or impacts their ability to communicate fully.
Reading Challenges: Struggling to rhyme, remember letter names, or sound out words; difficulty understanding the meaning of what they have read.
If these signs feel familiar, you aren't alone. I invite you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation so we can discuss your concerns and explore how to best support your child’s journey.
